Heartsong History

2000

• February
  The Bloomsbury Café closes.  This café has been brewing fresh chai for the people of Ashland.  Made in small batches with organic spices and lightly sweetened with honey, this chai is a spicy alternative to Oregon Chai. 

• April 
  Heartsong Chai is introduced on Earth Day at the Ashland Community Food Store Earth Day celebration.

2001 

• We brew at the certified kitchen of Evo’s Java House. We brew when they’re closed (at night). Heartsong Chai is served by the cup at two local cafes.

2002

• May 
  Heartsong begins selling chai concentrates and spice blends at the farmer’s market in Ashland.

• July
  The business & our home move to Jacksonville.  We move in order to build Heartsong a kitchen space. 

• November
  Construction on our commercial kitchen begins!  We do construction during the day and go to Ashland to brew at night.  Heartsong Chai is served in 5 locations.

2003 

• April: 
  Heartsong Chai Spice Blends hit shelves in stores throughout the Rogue Valley and beyond.

• May through October: 
  Farmer’s market season!  Seven locations in Ashland are now serving Heartsong Chai.

• October
  Nearly a year to the day, construction is officially finished.  The kitchen is licensed and Heartsong Chai is now brewed in Jacksonville!  

2004

• January  
  We change the company’s name to Heartsong Herbal Brewing Company.  We do this to reflect our growing product line. 

• February
  Heartsong introduces our Hemp Chai.  Made with organic, roasted hemp seeds instead of tea, this is nutty, rich, caffeine-free chai.  It is also the only hemp chai in the world, that we know of.

• March 
  We release all four chai varieties in half-gallon “Love Jugs” with vibrant, full color labels!  Heartsong graduates from the photocopied, black and white label just in time for our birthday. 

• April
  Heartsong celebrates four years in business! Our “Love Jugs” are now available in the cooler section of several grocery stores. 

• September
  Heartsong goes through another evolutionary shift and from this comes Chad, The Chai Guy, giving 110% of his energy and great enthusiasm and dedication.

• November
  Heartsong makes the world debut of our new Spice Blend packaging, complete with new graphics and brewing instructions, replacing the infamous Heartsong Chai bag packaging.  
  Heartsong holds its very first Advisory Council Conversations (board meeting).

• December
  After four years, the newly designed Heartsong Herbal Brewing Company website is revealed by the Chai Guy. This inspiration for a new website was inspired by the new Spice Blend packaging, complete with new graphics and brewing instructions.

2005

• August
  Heartsong travels to Black Rock City to serve the Burning Man Community. The Chai Guy decides that he needs to venture out into the world again to learn lessons of love and life.
• September
  Sarahjoins Heartsong in a new way. She begins to help in the brewery and continues to devote her creative endeavors towards Heartsong's growth.
• November
  Heartsong makes its trade show debut at the Green Festival with great enthusiasm and fanfare. This, as the chai folk will soon learn, is only the tip of the iceberg,...
  The Chai Guy meets the Chai Mama in San Francisco and triumphantly returns to Heartsong, also with great enthusiasm.

2006

• January
  Heartsong Chai is still made in the spirit of the Bloomsbury Café.  Hand crafted with love, in small batches, using organic spices and local honey, Heartsong is the Rogue Valley’s fresh chai.  Enjoy a cup of Heartsong Chai in many of Ashland’s cafes & restaurants, such as the Mind’s Eye Juice Bar in Ashland or in Grants Pass at the Joe Buzz Cafe or the Blue Stone Bakery.  Come see us on Tuesdays at the farmer’s market in Ashland.  Sample our newest product the Heartsong Habañero Honey Brew.  It’s a spicy, surprising tonic! 
• March
  Heartsong goes to ExpoWest in Anaheim CA. We have a booth in the far corner of nowhere then move the second morning to a much better spot and continue to sample our chai to the masses.
• April
  Heartsong turns 6 years old. We threw a birthday party at the Mobius with live music and a continuous slide show presentation. Deep Theory headlined after Becky White and Friends played.
• May
  The worlds first and only Chai Hut concept is born and we signed our lease to take over an abandoned Pizza Hut building in Ashland. Cleaning and construction begins with the help of many hands. Old carpet removed, retiled the floor from gifted tiles, built a wall and painted. Of course, it all began with cleaning 20 years of grease and soda. This place was disgusting when we began. Now it's the beautiful Chai Hut.
• August
  Heartsong goes to Burning Man and brings with it the Tea Temple, designed by Sarah. This was a mobile 2-story building complete with a kitchen and roof-top deck. We served thousands on the playa from this. The Chai Mama was also able to experiment with lots of herbs and teas to make new creations, some of which will forever be one-of-a-kind-and-lifetime experience. We burned the Tea Temple on the Temple of Hope ashes on Monday after the Man burned. 
• September
  Amber comes aboard as employee of Heartsong as a delivery person.
• October
  Heartsong has the Grand Opening of the Chai Hut to much success. Many people came for the first time and were able to see the new brewery, office, and Food Artisans Gallery and Cafe. Now anyone can come by and get a cup of chai straight form the source!
• December
  Sarah decides to leave Heartsong and pursue her art career full-time. Check out her website Sarafin Illuminations.

2007

• January
  Heartsong hires two employees to help run the Chai Hut and assist with production.
  Carnage in Jacksonville! Pipes freeze in the old Jacksonville brewery and caused some serious water damage. It was literally pouring inside the building when the Chai Guy found it. Some of the ceiling fell in and ruined most of the walls. Goodbye Jacksonville Brewery! Thank you!
  The Heartsong website gets another design shift.
• April
  Heartsong turns seven years young! All signs are pointing towards an amazing year and future for Heartsong.
• June, Heartsong has a full schedule of summer events: Emerg-N-See, High Sierra Music Festival, Oregon Country Fair, Pick-A-Thon, and Burning Man.
